Can You be Pregnant and Have no Pregnancy Symptoms?

What are pregnancy signs and symptoms during its early stages? This question is of interest not only for the families planning to have a baby but also for ones who don’t have such plans yet. Anyway, you should be psychologically ready for the news: “We’re going to have a baby!”

And the first thing that bothers people at this stage is the absence of pregnancy signs. Can a pregnant woman have no pregnancy symptoms? According to gynecologists, there are no pregnancy symptoms during early terms in approximately 7% of cases. The time of manifestation of symptoms, as well as their nature, depends on the individual organism characteristics of a pregnant woman.

Can There Still be no Pregnancy Symptoms During the Later Stages?

There are cases when women visit gynecologists suspecting pregnancy only in the 5th month when the fetus starts actively growing and the belly considerably increases in size. The menstrual cycle can continue without interruptions for as long as 2 months after the conception, and if the woman doesn’t have any symptoms she can’t even think about a possible pregnancy.

But in most cases, there are faint pregnancy signs you can notice if you pay enough attention: slight morning sickness, unusual vaginal spotting, dragging pains in your lower abdomen, menstrual cycle interruptions. If you experience all the mentioned symptoms at once you should at least suspect something. Visit a gynecologist to make sure this is pregnancy and not some kind of illness.

Pregnancy Symptoms can be Divided into Three Main Groups According to their Credibility

  • Obvious signs that indicate you’re 100% pregnant
  • Likely, which indicate that you rather are pregnant than not
  • Unlikely, which rarely indicate pregnancy

Among the obvious pregnancy signs there usually are the facts collected by a gynecologist: a positive pregnancy test, fetus revealed during an examination, results of pelvic ultrasound.

We consider likely signs different subjective factors and changes in the state of health: toxicosis, food cravings, weight gain, a missed period, etc.

Unlikely are considered such signs as increased irritability, mood swings, fatigue, different digestive disorders. All these symptoms are unspecific and can be also signs of some illnesses.

Early Pregnancy Signs

Some women state that they can feel pregnancy symptoms even in a few hours after having sex. However, gynecologists are skeptical about such statements because of the biological traits of the conception. There is the fact that spermatozoa keep the ability to move inside of a female body up to a week after sexual intercourse. And on any of these 7 days, the fertilization of an egg cell can happen. After that the fertilized egg begins to divide, fastening to the uterine wall. It’s a very intimate process that goes on a micro level and you can’t sense it physically.

But after 10 days after the conception, you can have the first signs of pregnancy. They are quite diverse. If you have taken your basal temperature measurements during the beginning of your menstrual cycle you can take them again and trace the changes (objective indication). However, in the majority of cases, you have to rely on subjective symptoms, the number of which increases as your pregnancy is taking its course.

A question frequently asked during the second pregnancy is how different the symptoms will be. If your health is perfect the second pregnancy will go much easier. It’s better to get pregnant for the second time in at least 3 years after the first one – the possibility of toxicosis will become less. It is related to the term of the full restoration of the iron level in blood.

During the second pregnancy, your belly begins growing on average a month earlier because your uterus is more stretched. You may also notice that your pregnant belly is now situated lower than during the first pregnancy. This happens because of stretched muscles as well. And they are also the reason why you have fewer digestive tract problems and difficulties breathing during your second time. However, in the later stages, you’re likely to have more frequent urination.
